Plastic tableware exports pay attention to the EU threshold

Plastic tableware exports pay attention to the EU threshold

Companies that export plastic tableware to the EU will be tested this year. According to the newspaper's news: the EU Food Safety and Animal Health Standing Committee recently voted to pass a legislative bill to strengthen the inspection of plastic tableware made of polyamide and tri-polyamide imported from China. All batches of plastic tableware in China were reviewed in writing and 10% were taken for laboratory analysis. This proposal will be implemented in July 2011.

According to industry insiders, tripolyamide and polyamide are generally used as plasticizers for plastic tableware. The content is slight and will not cause harm under normal conditions. If it exceeds a certain amount of use, it will be toxic to the human body.

"We don't mind this new regulation because our products have not used these substances originally," Mr. Lin, sales manager of Guangdong Haixing Plastic Co., Ltd. told reporters. According to reports, this well-known enterprise in the plastic tableware industry exports nearly 10 million US dollars per year to the EU, and its products are sold to more than 100 countries and regions. Mr. Lin said that the European Union had also introduced new regulations on heavy metal inspection, and the respective inspection standards of various countries were inconsistent. Germany, Denmark and other countries were “more strict”.

He said that the test standard to be issued is a kind of "trade barrier". He is not surprised by this, and he is happy to see the improvement of the threshold, because higher standards will allow some peers to withdraw, thus further increasing their European market share.

Dong Jinshi, secretary general of the International Food Packaging Association, told reporters that in addition to triamide, the melamine problem in melamine tableware is now more worthy of attention. Melamine tableware (melamine tableware) is made by heating and pressing mold of melamine resin powder, and melamine resin is polymerized from melamine and formaldehyde. If the raw material resin is not well polymerized, melamine remains and is heated to 120 at high temperature. It can be precipitated at around °C, posing a safety hazard to the human body.

"The problem of melamine tableware is more serious. If it is not seriously corrected, it will not only harm the health of consumers at home and abroad, but also damage the image of 'Made in China'." Dong Jinshi said. According to reports, as of May 22, 2009, nearly 6,000 of the national food packaging products manufacturers have obtained production licenses, but only 38 enterprises have obtained certificates of porcelain ware. This means that most companies do not have a production license. According to industry enterprises, there are actually more than 1,000 melamine tableware manufacturers in China, and there are only over 100 enterprises with real export qualifications.

It is understood that China's export of plastic tableware has been repeatedly notified and recalled by the EU, Japan and other countries and regions before being included in the catalogue. On June 4, 2010, the 12 million US$28.88 million "Shrek 4" plastic cutlery box used by KFC in the United States found that the heavy metal "cadmium" exceeded the standard, which may cause damage to human health and life safety. It affects the growth and intellectual development of children. For this reason, all the poisonous tableware on the US market is recalled and destroyed.

It is reported that in response to foreign technical restrictions on the destruction and claims of plastic tableware produced in China, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine intends to prepare for the registration and registration of import and export food contact products enterprises, and strengthen the control of toxic and hazardous substances. And regulation to reduce the quality risks caused by manufacturers who do not understand the requirements of the importing country. Chen Jian of Yangzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau said that in addition to strengthening supervision by government departments, enterprises should strictly control the procurement of materials, pay attention to the review of the production process of tableware, pay attention to the hygiene control of the operating environment, and effectively control risks and promote product exports.
